3 tips for Kawaii Self Care

Hey Kawaii lovers, 💖  this month is all about Kawaii self care. In this modern world, we rarely take a break for ourselves. In a rigid and fast world, taking a break to enjoy all things cute can relieve the effects of daily life.

We pressure ourselves to take on everything at the same time, and in the Kawaii world there can be unseen pressures to be super cute all the time… but let me tell you a secret… Kawaii comes in all shapes, colours, sizes and attitudes!! Phew!

Just because you love Kawaii, doesn’t mean you have to pressure yourself to dress in pastel everyday, and it’s okay to feel moody now and then.. True Kawaii is sweetness of the heart.

So today I want to share with you a few Kawaii self care tips and activities and some Kawaii Friends who have inspired me through my own journey of kawaii fandom. 💖 💚 💛 💜 💙

#1 Kawaii aesthetics

🎋 In Japan, Zen is very important. Having a cluttered environment can effect your mood, and leave you feeling overwhelmed at the best of times. I’m not suggesting not to have three thousand Rilakkuma plushies and 50 sailor moon posters on your wall… I love a busy room, but making sure your items have their own official place not only gives your items the respect they deserve, but allows you to move through your day with much more ease. Plus organising can be fun, especially with some kawaii music on in the background.

The rooms we see on Instagram can be very inspiring, but also make us feel like we dont have enough stuff to feel Kawaii.. News flash.. you dont need a room full of Kawaii things to be Kawaii!!! And again, I will stress, Kawaii is in the heart and soul! 🌸

You can though, try organising your clothes into outfits, or colour schemes, try getting rid of things you don’t wear anymore by giving them to charity (very kawaii), and making sure your items have a designated place so that when your clothes and accessories do inevitably end up on the floor and strewn across the bed, it’ll be easy peasy to clean up, in preparation for Kawaii chill time.

#2 Kawaii Crafts

You dont have to be an artist or writer to enjoy some creative down time. Writing and creating after a long day can be very therapeutic and a lot of what we subconsciously hold inside can be freed just by putting pen to paper. Last year I had some bad dreams that just kept coming. However frightening they were, and completely didn’t make sense, they were also inspiring! I decided to write down what happened as soon as I woke up, and then draw the images of the dream.. as soon as I drew them, they stopped coming!

Kawaii Crafts are not only really fun, they’re really good for the brain! Using your hands to create is the most natural thing a human can do, it literally feeds the brain with good chemicals and when you're finished you are filled with lovely Kawaii cute feelings and a new object for your collection. 💖 💚 💛 💜 💙

My Kawaii friend @ipukekawaii ‘Imani’ is so inspiring. She’s a Kawaii creative and Kawaii tattoo artist in Washington, DC. I love receiving her emails and watching her journey on Instagram. She has also written her own book called ‘Shoppe Gal, The Memoir’ on sale now, so go buy it here http://littleinkplay.shop/shoppe-gal-the-memoir/

She has the best kawaii vibes, plus she is real and down to earth. Go follow her @ipukekawaii & @ipukekawaii.tattoo

#3 Kawaii exercise

Dare I say it, but exercise is really important for the mind.. I know it can be scary, and I’m not one for the gym, but I know how us Kawaii folk love to be on the internet and play endless hours of Animal crossing and The Sims, and this can leave your Kawaii chi in a right state. It’s really important that you keep your body moving now and then, as your body is your temple. 🐾 🐾 🐾 🐾

Just going for a daily walk will ensure peace of mind, whether its just to the shops or around the local park, its good to get fresh air and see as far as the eye can see. In Japan a daily walk is second nature and very important, it can even contribute to a longer life, plus you get to see cute Kawaii animals in the park, which I always try to approach as if I was Princess Mononoke but alas, they run away..

Now I’m not saying go get trim, I’m all down for being thicc! But whether thicc, thin, or somewhere in between we can all move in a way that suits us. Personally I love to dance to my favourite music.. I’m really loving BABYMETAL at the moment, they touch my Kawaii side whilst also allowing me to let go and get rid of some anxiety, whilst I dance hard and sing away to their music. ❤︎

Woah! that was good, Do you love BABYMETAL or have another favourite band? let us know in the comments below!

….You do You

You do You! Whilst we love to impress our fellow humans, what’s most important is that you impress yourself.

Whatever dreams you have, follow them. If you want to be Kawaii Goth one day, Kawaii casual the next, then full blown Fairy Kei on the weekend, that’s your prerogative. Here at The Kawaii Shoppu we love all sides to Kawaii and free expression is our number one priority. Come and say hi to us on Instagram at @thekawaiishoppu.

Remember, Kawaii is in the heart and soul!

Wish you all the best guys,

Stay Kawaii,

Emmie <3
